Student Life and School Culture
We bring students, families, teachers, and our wider community together to create a place where learning, relationships, and a shared sense of belonging are part of everyday life.
Early Childhood
Our early childhood program is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, viewing young children as capable, curious thinkers with their own ideas worth exploring. Through play, inquiry, relationships, hands-on experiences, and thoughtfully designed environments, children are encouraged to ask questions, investigate their world, express their thinking in many different ways, and learn alongside their teachers and peers. Teachers carefully observe and document children's interests, using those discoveries to help shape meaningful learning experiences while building the foundational academic, social, and emotional skills children need for what comes next.
Lower Elementary
Our lower elementary program builds on children’s natural curiosity as they become increasingly independent and confident learners. Through strong foundational instruction, inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary projects, and hands-on exploration, students develop essential skills in literacy and mathematics while learning to ask thoughtful questions, make connections, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. Flexible grouping and individualized challenge allow students to learn at their level of readiness—not simply their age—while collaboration, creativity, and community remain at the heart of the school day.
Upper Elementary
Our upper elementary program challenges students to move beyond learning information to using it with purpose. Through advanced academics, interdisciplinary inquiry, STEAM experiences, and increasingly independent projects, students learn to analyze complex ideas, solve authentic problems, defend their thinking, and pursue questions that matter to them. Flexible pathways allow students to work at the level and pace appropriate to their abilities, while collaboration, leadership, and meaningful engagement with the wider community prepare them to become thoughtful, capable, and increasingly independent learners.
Enrichment
Electives at Fjord give students opportunities to move, create, experiment, and discover new interests beyond the core academic program. Physical Education emphasizes movement, teamwork, lifelong fitness, and the joy of being active, while our STEAM Lab brings science, technology, engineering, art, and design together in a hands-on space where students can build, code, invent, create, test ideas, and learn through experimentation. As Fjord grows, our elective offerings will grow alongside our students and community.
